The Play

by Varnika Thukral

Awaken the sky!
Sky, oh, sky,
slide the curtains, please,
There's a play
That I have to see,
One of the performers
Is my acquaintance,
And she acts so well

That I am tricked,
I wish to judge her more
I wish to see her
Though I have
Seen this play before,
But, tired, I am not,
And I never could be

If you think
The sun might blind me,
No worries, I'll sit by a lake,
The reflection of hers
Would make three,
First sky, second water,
Then a memory within me,

Could you?
Clear the clouds for today
My eyes are scorching clear
Tears,
Have wiped them clean,

Tell me, where is she
If not in acting a play
For I did not
see her yesterday.
